Creating Tasks

Step-by-step guide to creating tasks, from simple assignments to complex master-branch workflows.

Overview

Jadawel supports two types of tasks: Master Tasks (templates or parent tasks) and Branch Tasks (individual task instances). Understanding when to use each type helps you organize work effectively.

Creating a Master Task

Master tasks serve as templates for recurring work or as parent tasks for related subtasks.

Step 1: Access Task Creation

Navigate to /addTask to begin creating a new master task.

Step 2: Enter Basic Information

Fill in the essential task details:

Task Name

  • Use clear, action-oriented language
  • Start with a verb (e.g., “Review quarterly report”)
  • Keep it concise but descriptive
  • Example: “Process monthly invoices”

Description

Provide comprehensive task details:

  • What needs to be done
  • Why it’s important
  • Any special instructions
  • Links to relevant resources
  • Success criteria

Priority Level

Choose from:

  • Low: Nice to have, no rush
  • Medium: Important but flexible timeline
  • High: Critical, needs prompt attention
  • Urgent: Requires immediate action

Step 3: Set Timeline

Configure task scheduling:

Due Date

  • Click the date picker
  • Select target completion date
  • Consider realistic timeframes
  • Account for dependencies

Start Date (Optional)

  • When work should begin
  • Helps with scheduling
  • Triggers start notifications

Duration Estimate

  • How long the task will take
  • Helps with resource planning
  • Can be in hours, days, or weeks

Step 4: Assign Responsibilities

Primary Assignee

  • Select the person responsible for completion
  • Only one primary assignee recommended
  • They receive main notifications

Additional Assignees

  • Add collaborators or reviewers
  • Multiple people can be added
  • All receive task updates

Watchers

  • Add people who should stay informed
  • They see updates but aren’t responsible
  • Good for stakeholders and managers

Step 5: Configure Task Properties

Status Options

Define the workflow stages:

Default Statuses:

  • To Do
  • In Progress
  • Review
  • Completed
  • Blocked

Custom Statuses:

  • Click “Add Status”
  • Name your custom stage
  • Set status color
  • Define order

Tags

Organize and categorize:

  • Add relevant tags
  • Use existing tags or create new ones
  • Examples: “urgent”, “client-work”, “maintenance”
  • Helps with filtering and searching

Custom Fields

Add task-specific information:

  • Budget amount
  • Client name
  • Project code
  • Department
  • Any relevant metadata
